The term green cleaning is used to refer to the use of environmentally-friendly cleaning products and cleaning methods. Eco-friendly thinking goes through the whole development, testing and production process.

Green cleaning is a trend that is rapidly growing in popularity and many people are starting to recognise that it can bring substantial benefits. Green cleaning techniques and products avoid the use of toxic chemicals that can be harmful to your and your family’s health. The environmentally friendly cleaning products are often derived from natural sources, are biodegradeable and are environmentally safe.

There are a substantial number of health benefits by following green cleaning practices. You will enjoy a healthier living environment, fewer indoor air contaminants and reduced chances of catching colds or flus.

When you are using green cleaning products, you reduce the risk of exposing yourself to toxic chemicals that some cleaning products may include. Some glass cleaners, bathroom cleaners and all-purpose cleaners may include harmful chemicals.

Before you reach under the sink you may want to think a bit about the chemicals and products you might encounter. In case you were wondering what lurks inside those everyday cleaning products that you might find in the supermarket, here is a list of toxins you may or may not be aware of

Ammonia (in many glass cleaners): May cause headaches

Formaldehyde (in many different products): Suspected human carcinogen and acts as a strong irritant to eyes, throat, and lungs.

Hydrochloric acid or sodium acid sulfate (in some toilet bowl cleaners): Can burn the skin and cause vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach burns if swallowed.

Nitrobenzene (in some furniture and floor polishes): Can cause vomiting, and, in extreme circumstances, death. This toxin is also associated with cancer and birth defects.

Petroleum Distillates (in some metal polishes): Short-term exposure can lead to temporary eye clouding and longer exposure can damage the nervous system.

Phenol and cresol (in many disinfectants): Can cause dizziness and be poisonous if inhaled, ingested or absorbed through the skin.

Sodium Hypochlorite (in chlorine bleach): Fumes may cause eye and lung irritation. Long term exposure is harmful to the lungs. If mixed with ammonia, this releases toxic chloramine gas, which may cause asthmatic symptoms, and respiratory problems.

Butoxyethanol also known as ethylene glycol butyl ether (used as a solvent in carpet cleaners and specialty cleaners): It can be inhaled or absorbed through the skin and may cause blood disorders, as well as liver and kidney damage.

Are you using any products that might contain these substances? There is a simple and cost effective solution. You can save money, and at the same time ensure that you will not expose yourself and your family to these potentially hazardous chemicals. Create a healthy home by using environmentally friendly cleaning products.

Surprisingly, they can help you reduce your household budget, with the added convenience of being able to buy them in larger quantities and having reusable spray application bottles. This will also reduce your carbon footprint and help protect the environment.

The advantage of the products being made in the USA is that you have reliable development, testing and quality controls, so that you know you are getting good quality products. You are also keeping jobs locally through supporting United States of American business.

Green cleaning can offer many benefits. You will be saving money, and at the same time protecting your family’s health and helping to protect the environment.
